MENTAL HEALTH SCREENING AND SENSITIZATION

AT MANHYIA PALACE

Willingway Recovery & Rehabilitation Center Celebrates Nana Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s 25th Anniversary with a Mental Health Screening and Sensitization Program

In honor of the 25th Anniversary of Nana Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Willingway Recovery & Rehabilitation Center proudly participated in a series of health initiatives held at the Manhyia Palace on May 3rd, 2024. Among these, we organized a comprehensive Mental Health Screening and Sensitization Program aimed at raising awareness, providing free mental health assessments, and educating the community on the importance of mental well-being.

Celebrating a Milestone with Holistic Health Focus

The event was a celebration of leadership, community resilience, and the collective journey toward better health. During the program, speakers emphasized the significance of integrating mental health into overall community development, echoing Nana Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s vision for a healthier, more resilient society.

Objectives of the Program

The key goals of our Mental Health Screening and Sensitization Initiative were to:

  • Raise awareness about mental health and its vital role in overall well-being.
  • Offer free, confidential mental health screenings to identify individuals at risk.
  • Educate attendees on common mental health issues, symptoms, and effective coping strategies.
  • Provide information on local mental health resources, support systems, and treatment options.

Mental Health Screening: Compassionate and Professional

Our dedicated booth was staffed by experienced counselors and psychologists committed to providing support and guidance. The screening process included:

1. Initial Assessment:

  • Participants were welcomed and informed about the screening procedure.
  • A brief questionnaire gathered essential background information and helped identify potential mental health concerns.

2. Private Consultations:

  • Attendees had the opportunity for confidential one-on-one discussions with mental health professionals.
  • These sessions explored personal mental health history, current symptoms, and individual concerns.

3. Feedback and Recommendations:

  • Based on the assessments, participants received personalized feedback.
  • Recommendations ranged from lifestyle adjustments and coping techniques to referrals for further evaluation or specialized care if needed.

Mental Health Sensitization: Educating and Empowering

Alongside screenings, Willingway Recovery and Rehabilitation Centre conducted engaging educational sessions designed to demystify mental health and provide practical advice, covering topics such as:

1. Understanding Mental Health:

  • Explaining what mental health is and why it matters for overall life quality.
  • Discussing common mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, and stress in simple, accessible language.

2. Recognizing Symptoms and Seeking Help:

  • Teaching how to identify signs of mental health issues in oneself and others.
  • Providing guidance on when and how to access professional support.

3. Self-Care and Coping Strategies:

  • Sharing practical tips for managing stress, maintaining a healthy work-life balance, and practicing self-care.
  • Highlighting the importance of physical activity, proper nutrition, and adequate sleep in supporting mental health.

4. Resources and Support Systems:

  • Informing attendees about available local mental health services, including counseling centers, hotlines, and support groups.
  • Encouraging community members to seek help without stigma or hesitation.

Interactive Engagement

To foster active participation, the program included:

  • Question and Answer Sessions: Attendees asked questions and shared personal experiences, while mental health experts provided insights and guidance.
  • Workshops and Demonstrations: Practical sessions on relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing exercises and mindfulness meditation, were conducted to equip participants with tools to manage stress and anxiety in daily life.

A Successful and Impactful Initiative

The Mental Health Screening and Sensitization Program held at Manhyia Palace during Nana Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s 25th anniversary was a resounding success. It not only provided valuable health services but also fostered awareness, understanding, and community dialogue around mental well-being.

By actively engaging the community and providing accessible information, Willingway Recovery & Rehabilitation Center continues its mission to promote mental health awareness and support. Initiatives like this are essential in building resilient communities where mental health is prioritized, understood, and supported.

Together, we celebrate this milestone by reaffirming our commitment to mental wellness for all.
